Bringing in 2009

Damani is almost 6 weeks old. We have had a crazy month since he was born. He has had two hospital stays. The first was two weeks ago when he was admitted for not gaining enough weight post-birth. He wasn't getting enough milk from breastfeeding, so while in the hospital we straightened all of that out. He was there two nights. Then, a few days later, we were back at Children's Hospital ER because Damani had a nasty little cough. Turns out he tested positive for RSV (Respiratory Syncytial Virus), which he probably got during the first hospital stay. It's a respiratory infection that is very common, but since he was only 4 weeks old, they admitted him to watch his breathing and make sure he was OK. He did fairly well according to doctors, not needing oxygen or breathing treatments. So we did 3 nights in the hospital, and came home Christmas Eve. Now we are all healthy and happy and ready to bring in 2009.

Damani is changing every day. He now smiles, laughs, makes cooing noises, can focus on things/people, and lets us know when he is hungry, happy or needs to be changed. His hair is starting to curl up, and he looks less like a newborn and more like an infant. Happy New Year!
